If you are like me… you like bread.
Whether it is a loaf of Italian bread, a slice of sourdough, a bagel, or an organic-whole-grain-gluten-free-no-GMO-cardboard-consistency- taste-challenged slice of goodness…
It is always better fresh.
Sure… there are uses for day old bread. Like for putting in meatballs, or for use as bread crumbs, or even possibly croutons…
But day old bread wasn’t intended to be a staple of our diets.
At least not Biblically…
“Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them,… And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was…And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.” Exodus 16: 4,15,19
The Israelites were hungry. And they got cranky. They even complained to Moses, going so far as accusing him of bringing them in to the desert to die of starvation.
So God got to baking. And He sent them manna.
For forty years the Israelites ate this bread.
It was a daily reminder of God’s provision.
And it became a symbol of His promise and His power.
He was the Bread Man.
Delivered fresh daily.
If the people tried to keep it over to the next day… it would spoil. Worms would show up and make it inedible.
That is all except one gold pot of it.
Why? Not because of the pot itself.
But because of where this pot was placed.
“And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.” Exodus 16:33
God’s presence sustained what would otherwise have spoiled.
We have been given the True Bread from heaven…
Jesus. The Bread of Life (John 6).
Bread that is in Itself the very Presence of the One Who sent it.
You don’t have to wonder.
He is still the Bread Man.
He still delivers daily.
And when you are hungry… the Bread is there…. Risen…
You are a vessel… a pot… and when you take in the Bread… and you enter His presence…
You become the gold pot.
A royal vessel.
A vessel… of God.
Never spoiling. Always fresh.
Don’t settle for what the world can give you… day old bread…
You get to have the Bread of Life… straight from heaven.
