Three Steps to Biblical Receiving

He came unto His own, and His own received Him not.  But as many as received Him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.”  John 1:11,12

If we are to have anything from God we must learn to receive.

I worked in a warehouse for a spell.   There was a “receiving” department.   That department was responsible for three very important things.

Acknowledging a delivery, allowing the shipment to enter the building, and verifying the material was correct.

Even if the person in receiving acknowledged the delivery and allowed the shipment to enter the building, unless they verified that the material was correct, they could still refuse it.  It would be sitting on our loading dock, but it wasn’t ours.

The end of the process of receiving is a transfer of ownership.

God wants us to take ownership of His promises.  He wants us to take ownership of our inheritance.  He wants us to take ownership of all of the blessings available in Christ.

In order to do that we must think differently about what Biblical receiving is.

Receive: to see accurately or correctly identify; to recognize or acknowledge; to admit or allow

The root word ceive relates to “seeing”.

When we are deceived we fail to see accurately, correctly identify, recognize, acknowledge…

“He came unto His own, and His own did not correctly identify Him, recognize Him, see Him for Who He was…” for had they “they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” (1 Corinth 2:8).

The first key to receiving from God is to get an accurate picture of Who God is.

He is a Giver.

When we see Him as Giver we can allow Him to give.

And once we have verified that what God is offering is what we desire we can take ownership of it.

It becomes ours.

It has been received.

And all of this happens long before it is opened.  Long before our earthly eyes have beheld it.  Long before our frail bodies can feel it… long before others will…

Acknowledge it, allow for it, admit it…

We are forgiven, free, whole, healed, strong, prosperous, intelligent, patient, kind, blessed,…

When someone speaks a blessing over you, and you say, “I receive that!” Realize that the end of that process is transfer of ownership.

If you say you receive it… then you have to act like you have it!

Confess it and express it!

God never meant for His gifts to gather dust.

If you say that God has healed you… that you have received it… it is yours!

Don’t send it back.  Don’t refuse shipment.  Don’t leave it on the dock.

It might take a while to get it out of the box.  You might have to make room for it on a shelf.

BUT IT IS YOURS!

The enemy will try to deliver all kind of distraction.  He will try to flood your warehouse false promises and lies.  He tries to deliver discouragement and depression, poverty and pain, illness and sorrow EVERY DAY.  He will send you package after package after package to keep you distracted from opening up what God would give you.

Don’t even acknowledge it!  Don’t allow it into the building!

Place a big sign over your door “ONLY ACCEPTING DELIVERIES FROM HEAVEN.  ALL OTHERS TURNED AWAY!”

Receive… because He wants to Give.
