Your wave is coming

When I was younger… much, much younger… yeah, much younger… I used to enjoy going in the ocean.  That was before “Shark Week” was big and I became more “buoyant.”  If I were to ride a wave in now I think I would dig a trench in the sand with my stomach.

Back then though I could spend hours in the ocean.  And though I didn’t surf (I did try mind you, it just wasn’t one of my “strengths”) I loved having the waves bring me in to shore.  “Body Surfing” was the term that allowed us non-balanced people to maintain our dignity at the beach.

But the same rules applied to us as did the “cool”  kids who had the surf boards.

And they apply to us now.

That is… you and me… and anyone waiting on the promises and plans of God.  These are not necessarily in order… but they all teach us something about living out our faith.

In order to catch a wave… you had to be in the water.   And not just in where your feet were getting wet.  You had to be committed.  You had to be willing to get wet.

You had to fight the waves to get to where you could catch the waves.  It was always more work getting out there than getting in.  The wave did all the work on the way back in.  You just had to catch it.

You can’t catch every wave… so choose your wave carefully.  You can only ride one wave at a time, but sometimes the wave to ride is the one you can catch.

You have to get in front of it.  There is the perfect spot where the force of the wave lifts you and propels you forward.

Sometimes you miss a wave.  That’s ok… it happens…but don’t get discouraged, just remember the next one….

There’s always another wave… stay in the water long enough and you’ll catch one.  Even when the waves are small and the water calm… you stay in there long enough and a wave will come along.

And here is actually one of my favorites… I needed to remember this more than anything…

Waves are always the biggest after a storm!  Oh yeah!

God’s blessings are like the waves of the ocean.  They are always coming.  Always rushing to the shore.  We can see them.  We can see others “riding” them.  And it compels us to get in the water.

Faith gets us in the water… trust gets us on the wave.  Trust is moving forward with confidence and security…  It is active not passive.  It says, “I will do whatever I need to catch this wave because my God has sent it!”

We may wait in the water… but when you see a wave coming… you don’t wait… you get ready… you paddle… you position yourself… you CATCH IT!

Today I want you to know in the depths of your heart that your wave… YOUR WAVE… is coming!

Whether you are coming out of a storm season or a calm season… there is a wave… a blessing… on its way.

Get ready!  Get in position!  Even if you missed the last one… even if you ducked under one that scared you… there is a wave that is yours… a wave that will lift you and propel you forward.

As sure as the waves come… so will His promises.

As powerful as the waves are… so are His plans for you.
