Reaching out for His hem

If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole.” (Mark 5: 28)

There was no precedent for what this woman did.  So where did she get this “thought” from?  At what point did she think, “all I have to do is touch His garment?”

This was something that only the Father could have told her.  He put it upon her heart, and she knew it.

It was a promise that He had made… to her.

A personal promise.

A promise that only she could take a hold of.

Many people were touching Jesus… but they weren’t getting healed that way.

She had spent all of her living and had wasted so much time… and had only gotten worse.  She would have been considered unclean by so many because of this issue of blood.  She was at her wit’s end.  She was desperate.

And in that desperation came the promise.  And it gave her hope.

She knew that all it would take would be that moment of contact… but she had a problem.

She had to get close to Him.  He had to be within reach.

And with the crowd pressing in… and the ruler getting the attention… her window of opportunity was closing.

At some point she had to have realized… “if I don’t reach for Him now…”

So she took hold of the promise as she took hold of Him. She acted in faith – the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen – and believed (acted according to her confession – “If I touch Him then…”)and was healed.

Has God made you a promise? A personal promise?  A promise about a healing, a relationship, a child, a job, …?

Has He given you an “If you will… then…” that has no precedent?  Something people might thinks is a little odd?  Something that other people might all be doing, but not getting the same result? (Master, everyone is touching you!)

There comes a moment… a moment of decision… a moment where the promise God made you is just within reach…

And you must act.

You must reach out and take hold of it.

Not because it is you that is working… but because He is working!  He will not force anything into your hands.  You must take hold of it!

Press through the crowd.  Ignore normal.  Expect to be surprised by the promise of God fulfilled in your life.

Touch the hem of His garment.
