Body Odor

Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.” 2 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV)

We aren’t talking about the “smell of victory” that lingers in the locker room after a game or in the socks of the marathon runner… for weeks.

This is different.

It isn’t just body odor… it is Body Odor.

When we as the Church, the very Body of Christ, face life having already triumphed over death through the Blood of Jesus…

When we surrender to the Spirit and allow Him to comfort others through our hands and our hearts with the same comfort that He has comforted us with…

When we recognize that His grace is amazing… that His mercies are new every morning… that His love endures forever…

When we choose not to condemn… but to encourage…

Not to hate… but to love…

Not to resent… but to forgive…

When we reflect the heart of God and reach with the hands of Jesus…

God is known.

We begin to smell like heaven.

And people can’t help but notice.

The fragrance of the His knowledge… The “sweet savour” of the Savior.

The Church should never wear the deodorant of self-righteousness, of religious arrogance, or of condemnation.  We should not do that which would mask the smell of heaven.

Just as the smell of an amazing meal can make you smile, salivate, and “get hungry” when you were…

So should the aroma of the Church make people hungry for God.

So… I ask you…

What’s that smell?
