I grew up thinking that confessing was admitting when you were wrong. As a man (though not exclusive to men) it can often be hard to admit when you are wrong. I know I have a hard time doing it.
I can get into defense mode and try to justify my actions. But, just as he is apt to do, the enemy twisted the true meaning of confession to become one of condemnation.
But confession isn’t about condemning… it is about agreeing.
Homologeō: to say the same thing as another, i.e. to agree with, assent
We live confessing. We just don’t know it. We are tricked into thinking that in order to confess we must speak. While there is power in speaking… it is not necessary for confession… WHY? Because I can demonstrate agreement.
Who are you agreeing with your actions? What confession are you demonstrating?
When I say along with the enemy through my actions, through demonstrating my agreement, that I am better than everyone else… I can say, “everyone is equal.” But the fruit of that tree would be contradictory.
“Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” 1 John 4:15
Let’s expand that one…
“Whosoever shall demonstrate through their words and actions that the agree that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” 1 John 4:15
Kinda puts a new burden doesn’t it?
Kinda makes it more real.
But it also empowers us. Because we no longer look at confessing as a condemning thing we can now say, “in the past I had agreed with the enemy in word and action”
BUT NO LONGER!
I repent (change my mind) and from now on I will demonstrate through my words and actions that…
Jesus is Lord. And I am His.
AMEN? AMEN!
Go live a life of confession!
