Some people would argue that every disease is a result of a demonic attack. I would disagree. I would say that disease (which is a form of death) is a result of sin, and specifically, sin having entered the world through the fall. That is not to say that every disease is a result of a person’s sin… but sin as much as it is a separation from God. A separation from God that needs to be bridged through Christ.
In Matthew 10:1 we read, “And when he had called unto [him] his twelve disciples, he gave them power [against] unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.” (bold mine)
I am not a pro at prepositional phrases, but I can remember from my sentence diagram days that the “and” after the first phrase “to cast them out” separates it from the second. So when Jesus gave power to the disciples He did it cast out unclean spirits, and to heal.
We have to remember that there is now therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. So we can’t assume when a believer is sick that it is a demonic attack, or that it is because of a sin in their life. We can, however, have confidence that, whatever the reason… the power that the Lord has given us through the Holy Spirit IS stronger.
As believers we have this same power… which can also be read as “authority” because of the use of exousia… to do the same.
Let’s get to it.
