Have you ever been expecting an important call that just doesn't seem to come? Maybe it's that interview you just went on, or that call from the coach telling you that you made the team. Maybe it's a friend that said they would call, or that someone that you wish would. Whatever the call, whether it came or not, did picking up the phone before it rang ever prove to speed the process along? Doesn't it make much more sense to wait for the phone to ring?
Maybe you don't actually pick the phone up, but you might sit by it and stare. Everything else that was to happen that day gets put on hold, your world stops.
Too many of us pick the phone up before it rings. We figure, "I'm ready Lord. Send me now." Or, "Okay Lord, ask me to..." But think of the problems with this. You could be tying up the lines. He could be calling you to something completely different than the call you are expecting or wanting. But by being preoccupied, and wanting to do something specific for God we can in fact delay the opportunity to serve Him as He desires.
"Lord, you know I'd make a great preacher/minister/counselor/ whatever so why are you waiting?" Could this be you? Could this be what you are asking? Are you getting frustrated because you feel you are not doing enough for Him? Well stop tying up the lines. Wait for His call. Know that He will send you where He will and He will equip you for the journey. Many times He sends you where you are least prepared to go. He may do this so that you learn to depend on Him for more.
Believe it or not He calls people to make glue, and wash floors, and deliver pizza. He's not limited. Don't limit Him.
