Dinner for one?

this do in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19

I found it amazing that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ spent His whole ministry pointing people to the Father.  He beckoned people to come to Him to see the Father, to know the Father, to desire the Father.

He was obedient and faithful unto death.  And He did all things to glorify the Father.

Even when His disciples asked Him how they should pray… He told them to begin by saying, “Our Father.”

Anything we ask the Father in Jesus name we are given.

But He did give us one thing that we can do for Him… just for Jesus…

This do in remembrance of me.  The Lord was having His final meal with His closest disciples, the ones He would later send out as Apostles.  It was Seder meal.  A tradition that had gone back to Moses.  A meal that commemorated all the Lord God had done for Israel.  It was a special moment, and one that was scripted.

But He changed it.  He lifted the bread and called it not the manna from heaven, but His body… the True Manna.  He lifted the cup and called it His blood… the blood of the new covenant.

And then He tells…whenever we sit to eat… whenever we break bread with one another… to remember Him.  We have the awesome opportunity to give unto Jesus what He asked us to do specifically for Him.  It is like asking what He wants for His birthday and Him telling us.  So we go to the store and get exactly what He asked for and can give it Him knowing it makes Him happy.

Remember Him whenever you come together to eat.  Don’t forget what He has done.  He gave His body.  He spilled His blood.  He wants us to remember that.  It is all about the cross.

And know that He is coming again…

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.” 1 Cor 11:26

He wants to sup with us.  Will we invite Him in to the dinner for One?
