Are you “such a man?”

In my own life I have battled many times with pride.  Win some… lose some.  The scriptures have a certain way of always ringing true.  Pride does go before destruction.  And God will exalt the lowly or humble.  A prideful man wants to be known.  A humble man wants Jesus to be known.
There is an instance in the Bible when we see someone given an amazing blessing… he hosts the Passover meal for Jesus the night he was betrayed.  And do you know what his name was?...
Actually, no one does.  Take a look.
Now the first [day] of the [feast of] unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.” Matthew 26:17-19
The word from the Greek that is translated “such a man” is deina.  It can also be translated “a certain one.”  Interestingly enough it can also be interpreted “one whose name is not worth mentioning.
But the disciples knew who Jesus was talking about.  And they went right to the man who was perfectly fine with being call such a man.
I wonder if Jesus had simply pointed to him once in front of the disciples and said, “He is such a man.”
Or maybe when Jesus spoke about him He never used a name, just a description of a man who always opened his home, his table, his heart.
Maybe such a man’s willingness was what made the disciples sure they knew who Jesus was talking about.  His reputation preceded his name.
Do ours?
If someone were to come to Jesus with a question, a need, a concern… would He be able to simply describe you without your name and they would know exactly who He was talking about.
“Every action of the common day makes or unmakes character,” Oscar Wilde.
We should live our lives as such a man so that our names are forgotten and THE NAME is known.  The name above all names.
JESUS!
For such a time as this… live to be such a man.
