When you feel like it is over…

Have you ever been at the point where your expectations have been dashed?  When you have these great plans but they just didn’t seem to pan out?  When you gave it all you had… placed big bets… trusted people… and then… nothing.
You are in good company.  And, by the way… just as deceived.
There was this guy named Peter.
But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.” Matthew 26:58
A little of 3 years of his life was about to go down the drain.  Sure, he would have some good memories… some amazing stories… some new friends… but it didn’t end the way he thought it would.
Jesus was about to be put to death… just like He said He would.
And Peter followed Him afar off… because he was too afraid to be associated with Him… I mean, we can understand it, right?  If He hadn’t gotten caught… if He had led a successful overthrow of Rome… if, if, if… but He didn’t and He was.  And Peter was afraid for his own neck.
But Peter had to see the end. Maybe he had a little hope left.  Maybe he was just that type who had to see with his own eyes.  Maybe he was confused.
But he was deceived.
This was not the end.  This was going to be the beginning.  When Jesus said, “It is finished” He was really saying, “Let it commence.”  He knew that He had to be obedient unto death.  He knew that He would return to the Father and the Spirit would come.
He already saw it all.
And we need to as well.  When we are faced with unmet expectations… when we feel like it is all over… that is it the end…
We need to remember that it was only after Jesus gave all He could that we received all He wanted for us.
Give.  Endure.  Keep at it.  The end of yourself might just be the beginning of what He has in store for you.
