We have heard the phrase a lot. “It isn’t about religion, it’s about relationship.”
People who are knee deep in religion will often not see it. I know I didn’t when I was.
They will talk about the relationship but still be striving for position.
If you are ever in the position where you find yourself in a place that is all about religion you might want to do like the sons of thunder did…
“And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.” Mark 1:20
The “hired servants.”
That about sums up the religious striving spirit that tries to “make a living” out of religion rather than to “make a difference” from the life in Christ they are living.
Sometimes we just have to jump ship and follow Jesus.
Now I know that some of you are thinking this is a great excuse to abandon ship… but that is not what I am saying. The religious spirit also flees from Jesus.
We need to make sure that our striving and determination to win and provide (just like Zebedee and the hired servants) does not seclude us from Jesus.
If He walks by… get out of the boat of your comfort and achievement and follow Jesus!
Being a Christian is not about what your get or achieve… it is about what you give because of what He has accomplished.
