We all have a burden. We all have troubles. Christ tells us to deny ourselves daily and take up our cross.
“And he said to [them] all, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” Luke 9:23
But what is this “cross” that we need to take up?
Could Christ have been telling us to suffer each day? Maybe.
To face each day triumphant…? To accept punishment?
Not sure.
But what I am sure of is this…
We deserved the cross… but Jesus took it for us.
There was a cross with each of our names on it. A cross that never got placed in the ground, never got used, never had us nailed to it. A cross that we earned because of our separation from God, because we failed to honor Him in everything we do. A cross that was made perfectly to fit us.
But rather than letting it sit and collect dust… maybe we should take it up, daily, and carry it with us. Carry it because it no longer signifies our death… but our life because of His death.
Carry it… high… because, just as when Moses lifted up the staff with the serpent in the desert… when we lift High the Cross of Christ… we exalt Him.
And He will draw all men to Himself.
