In the middle

Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” Psalm 1:1-2

When we think of meditating we might get a picture of someone sitting on the floor with their legs crossed, the wrists on their knees, and the tips of their thumbs and forefingers touching as they chant, “Ooohmmm.”  But I would like to paint another picture.

And it is a picture of a place, not a practice.

When you look at the word meditate you know that it is a verb.  How about the word estate?  Same –ate ending.  Shouldn’t it be a verb as well?

Maybe it is.

Estate: to be continually established.

When someone has an estate, it has been established as theirs.  But it is more than just present ownership, it is continual ownership.  An estate can be passed on to others.

Have I digressed?  Bare with me…

So in Colucci’s Etymological Collection (yet to be published… nowhere near being accepted), the ending –state can be understood as to be continually.

Makes sense, right?  State of being.  State of emergency.

If you want to use the suffix –state, you can drop the “s” and just make it –tate.

The root word medi- means middle.

So instead of saying medistate you simply say…

Meditate: to be continually in the middle

Psalm 1:2 then paints a picture of a man who is continually in the middle of the law, day and night.

O Pharisee, where art thou?  We need more people who are just immersed (in the middle of, fully surrounded by, etc.. ) the Law.

But wait!  These are the times of the blood of Jesus!...

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” Romans 6:14

Now it all makes sense!  Replace law with grace and see what a beautiful picture the Word paints.

Blessed [is] the man that… [has his] delight  in the grace of the LORD; and [who] is continually in the middle of His grace,  day and night.

God speaks well of (blesses) us when we just sit smack dab in the middle of His grace (the good we do not… nor could ever deserve)!

Go and have a seat in His grace.  Hang out day and night.
