I struggle with this a lot. I desire to be deeply consumed by the presence of God but then find myself thinking more on where I am than where He is.
Where I am is a position. It is a finite space. When I try to attain a position within the Body of Christ… I fight for a spot.
When I asked the Lord what position He would have me be in He said this,…
“Knees bent, hands lifted high in surrender, praising Me.”
It was an interesting response. I assumed something like, “Preacher” or “Minister” or something along those lines.
My thoughts were finite… His, infinite.
When we take a position of humility, surrender, and praise… we enter His presence.
“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore.” Psalm 16:11
But when we try to gain a position other than one of exalting Christ… we set ourselves up for the ever present, holy, all-loving instruction of the Lord.
“For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” Luke 14:11
When we want to go higher… into His presence… we must lower ourselves.
The fullness of joy is ours to experience in His presence. When we seek only a position… when we seek to be higher than others… we leave His presence… and those who are below, those who are humble… enter it.
In our own strength… we achieve the opposite of our desire.
But when we delight in Him… He gives us those desires.
Bend a knee. Lift your hands in surrender and praise.
Be joyful.
