I remember this blanket that my grandmother made for me. It was blue and white. I kept it on my bed even in to my teenage years. It was special because she made it.
My daughter had a pink blanket that she loved. My grandson had one with Dalmatians on it.
They carried them everywhere. They need them to know they were safe. And then, because the world said that had to… they “outgrew” them.
Isn’t it a shame that the world does the same thing to us about God? When we are younger, innocent, full of absolute faith in God… people let us believe. They do it in an almost patronizing way… but they do it.
And then, when they think that we are too old and should have outgrown Him… they begin to tell us that we “should know better,” that “we are much smarter now,” or that “we need to deal with reality.” And we put that security blanket down.
Why?
Because the “world” says we should.
You know what?... “a-threaded-fastener-that-holds-things-together-by-being-twisted-in” that!
Who made them better that our God! Who gave them the right to steal our faith!
Who gave them the permission to keep us from our Comforter!?!
That’s right… they are quenching the Holy Spirit, Who is our Comforter. They are trying to keep us from having all that He wants for us because they have failed to receive it themselves.
Well… sorry… I’m not going to listen and I encourage everyone to go get that security blanket.
“And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig [about thee, and] thou shalt take thy rest in safety. Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make [thee] afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee. But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope [shall be as] the giving up of the ghost.” Job 11:18-20
Yeah… God is my security blanket… my Comforter… and I am never getting letting go!
Cuddle up.
