Before Jesus died on the cross… before He conquered the grave… before He rose… and then ascended…
“People” had a general consensus of who they thought Him to be.
“…the multitude, … took him for a prophet.” Matt 21:46
“And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.” Matt 21:11
“… Some [say that thou art] John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.” (v14)
A prophet is one who speaks on behalf of God. “The multitudes” agreed that Jesus spoke the words of God because of the power of His ministry and the authority with which He spoke.
It wasn’t until He had risen from the dead that they believed what Peter had confessed all along… “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (v16)
It was His resurrection that proved Who He is.
So many people today will say that Jesus was “a good man” or a “good teacher.” Some will even say that He was a “prophet.” I met a Jew today that said Jesus was one of the biggest proponents of not selling wares in the temple. (Interesting that he knew that!)
But they don’t know that He is Lord yet because they don’t know that He is alive.
We need to show the world that our Lord IS ALIVE!!!!
How… by using our hands, our feet, our mouths, our hearts, our “whatever”… to glorify Him and make Him known.
When… not if… but WHEN we lift Him up… HE will draw all me to Him.
Amen?
AMEN!
