It was a thin skinned orange, but the skin was tough, so it was hard to peel it in one swoop. I started thinking about a cooking show I saw once where they were trying to get a certain look to the orange so they cut it into a square to get the peel off.
I thought, “What a waste of a good orange.”
But it dawned on me today. It wasn’t a waste…
It was a sacrifice.
A large part of the orange wasn’t eaten. But the chef was going for presentation, and to them, it was worth sacrificing part of the orange to get the result they wanted.
I wonder… did people say of Jesus when He was crucified, “What a waste of a good life!”
I am sure many did. They thought of the ministry He had demonstrated and thought, “If only He hadn’t angered the religious leaders, He would still be doing good. What a waste…”
They made the same mistake I had made about the orange.
It wasn’t at all a waste… It was THE Sacrifice.
God had a plan. A plan of salvation for all. And it required a sacrifice.
And to God… we were worth the death of His Son.
God loves you. You ARE worth dying for. No matter what you have done or where you have been. The shadow of the cross covers you.
