Sunday at church our pastor went off on one of his usual tangents. The congregation finds it amusing. He admits it and gets back to the point.
But I wonder… does he go off on a tangent… or does the Spirit lead him there?
“For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.” Luke 12:12
I know that the context here is around when we are brought into a place of judgment and condemnation, but I also believe that sometimes, when we go “off topic” or “on a tangent” it is because God is going to meet someone on that side street… of to the side.
“And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.” Mark 10:46
I thank the Lord for the side of the highway… the place where those who need Him can call to Him. As we go by, following Him, thinking we are doing it right, that we are following the rules…
Sometimes He guides us off the path to the side… so that the Spirit can minister.
The next time you see someone go off on a tangent… look for the one Jesus is reaching to… and give them a hand.
