“I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.” Proverbs 5: 12
It is a tough place to be in… realizing you almost blew it! Realizing you were “almost in all evil.”
We have all been in that place. Hopefully we catch ourselves before we get there. It is eye-opening, though, whenever it happens.
But we aren’t the first to be there and the Word of God gives us instruction on how to avoid it…
“My son, attend unto my wisdom, [and] bow thine ear to my understanding: That thou mayest regard discretion, and [that] thy lips may keep knowledge… Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:” Proverbs 5: 1-2, 7-8
But that isn’t everything.
We have to incorporate confession.
Always.
We are always in a position to realize where we were wrong and correct it.
“And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!” Proverbs 5: 14
The wise, the humble… know how to receive instruction… how to receive reproof.
How to obey.
How to listen.
Because a life of obedience is the example Christ gave.
“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:8
A hard act to follow.
