“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Psalm 11 v3
We understand the importance of a solid foundation. We know that, if the foundation is not secure, if it does not sit upon something that is immovable, there will be a problem.
The building will come crumbling down. In this we have a caution and a hope.
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:11
There are so many distortions of the gospel. There are so many misrepresentations of Christ. But we can have this hope…
That the righteous (those who have been made righteous by the blood of Jesus and are now standing right with God) need not fear that their foundation will be destroyed, nor that what they have done upon it will not be recognized…
“Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” 1 Corinthians 3:12-15
Here is the caution and the hope. We can build upon the foundation of Christ… we can start ministries, preach the gospel, witness to the nations… to our families… to our friends…, and then, when the fire of the Holy Spirit tries it and it abides, we have a reward.
However, if it doesn’t… we see that it wasn’t of God. Still, and herein lies the greatest hope of all, for those who have believed a distorted gospel or a distorted view of Jesus… If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved.
Don’t be too quick to judge people by the lies they believe. Don’t be too quick to judge them by the good they do.
Let Jesus judge.
You … love.
