“For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.” Mark 4:28
A seed can get through the smallest crack. Remember that. I know I have to.
I have cracks in my driveway. I have seen them in the church parking lot as well.
And when there is a crack, a seed can get through. Whether it is grass or a weed or a stalk of corn… it will find its way down to the soil and take root.
But we have to be careful what seeds get through because there is a lot of power in that little seed.
For when it grows, it makes the crack larger, and then more seeds get in… and more blades grow… and before you know it… the drive way, walkway, or parking lot are ruined.
It is the same in our spiritual lives. If we leave a crack unpatched… seed gets in. And not all seed is the seed of the Word of God.
Some seed is from the enemy.
And the damage that seed can do when it becomes full grown is severe.
But the seed of the Word of God also takes its time to grow. First the blade. The blade needs to be protected, it needs to be watered… it needs the Son.
Then the ear. The ear protects. It gives a place for the corn to grow.
When the seed of the Word of God takes root, and we begin to acknowledge and hear God, through His Word, then there is a place for the fruit.
Then the full corn.
We want the full corn of our faith to be the only thing that takes root. And in order to do that, in order to prevent the weeds of the deceit of the enemy to cause more cracks, we must patch out ways.
“Every way of a man [is] right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.” Proverbs 21:2
At the heart of everything that matters, it is a matter of the heart.
