I have heard it said that the purpose of God’s Law was to demonstrate the perfect religion. That it is meant to show us what pleases God. It is meant to give us guidelines for righteous living and moral truth.
All true… but it boils down to one thing that trumps all, and fulfills all…
“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” Galatians 3:24
All of the Law was meant to teach us and lead us to Christ.
We realize that we could never pay the price required for sin… and so He did.
We realize that in the flesh we could never measure up… so He gave His flesh over to the whip.
We realize that sin required blood… and so He spilled His.
We learn through the law what pleases God so that we can know the heart of God.
We learn through the law that God protects His people, and loves His creation.
We learn that the Law does not justify… only faith does.
“But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:25-26
If it weren’t for the law… we wouldn’t know grace.
Sometimes you have to see what is required so that you understand just how much you have been loved.
