The “Event Horizon”… where the Devil can’t get you

The “Event Horizon” is the term for the point near a black hole where the gravity is so intense that there is no way to escape it.
It is a point of no return.  It is a point of position that determines where you are going.
I wonder… is there a point like this where we have gotten so close to Jesus… so drawn in by Him… that the devil and his demons wouldn’t be able to touch us?  Is there a point where our proximity to Jesus draws us so close to Him that the Light He is dispels every attempt of darkness to draw near?
I think so.
People may argue that we think too much of ourselves if we think that “the devil can’t touch us” but I would wager that the devil would love us to believe that.
I am by no means saying I am there… but I think I know someone (other than Christ of course) that was.
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.” 2 Corinthians 12:7
I have heard many different explanations of what the “thorn in the flesh” might be, but the Paul gives the best one when he says that is was a messenger of Satan.  This “messenger” is the same word for “angel.”
Paul walked around with a demon, a messenger of Satan, always present… always there.  It humbled Paul… but what was God’s answer to his request to dispel it?...
For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:” vv8,9a
Paul had a demon following him always.  But it was just an intimidation factor.  It was a failed assignment of Satan.  All it could do was watch.  Paul was too close to Jesus.  The grace of God was sufficient and His strength was made perfect.
Paul saw the presence of a demon as a sign of his own weakness.  Christ saw it as an opportunity to demonstrate His strength.
for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”v9b
What Christ was saying here was that His strength was demonstrated in the fact that the demon was forever present and forever ineffective.
Paul had hit the event horizon.  The devil knew it.  Satan couldn’t get any closer.
It must have been hell for that “messenger of Satan” to have to follow Paul around, witnessing the amazing power of the love of God and the demonstration through the Spirit, and not being able to do anything about it.
We all have past demons… maybe even present ones that have been assigned to us.
Let’s get closer to Jesus.
Let’s make those wretches miserable as they see that they can do nothing to harm us, for in Christ Jesus, we are strong.
They may be ever present… but it is more torture for them to follow an effective Christian around that it ever could be for the Christian they are following.
Aim for the Event Horizon.
Full throttle.
