King David had guts…

But when the Pharisees saw [it], they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him; How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? Matthew 12: 2-4
What made King David so sure he was above the law?
Because he knew the purpose of the law.  He had an understanding of the heart of God.  He knew that the purpose of God’s law was to reveal God’s love.
And he knew that God’s heart was too big to deny His children bread.
He knew he was a child of God and therefore he was entering his Father’s house.  His loving Father’s house.
Not the courtroom of a judge.
But His Dad’s kitchen.
And so he went in to the pantry and got some eats.
It is when we have a true revelation of the love of the Father that we are above the Law… not because we are not subject to it… but because, in Christ, it has been brought into subjection to Him.
And He has fulfilled it.
David was living a life of Hope.  He was living further out.  He had penned the Psalms that spoke of the Savior.  He lived in the knowledge of Him.  He lived in the knowledge of John 3:16…
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
David was not afraid of God’s judgment because He knew that He would provide the sacrifice.  He was not afraid of God’s judgment because he knew of God’s love.
Oh that we would have that same revelation.
