Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Tim 2:15

It is one thing to read… it is altogether another thing to study.  The word used for study is spoudazō and it implies exerting yourself, expending energy, preparing, equipping.  We are called to put effort into our relationship with Christ.

And the main method of doing that is given to us…

rightly dividing the word of truth.”

We should expend energy and give focus to being in the Word of God, not just reading it as we would the daily paper, but using it as a means of preparation and equipping.

And the exhortation wrapped in a promise is that when we do we will not be ashamed but rather we will be approved of God.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16

God will Himself prove us.  He will affirm our value.
