Avoiding disappointment

Is there a biblical strategy for avoiding disappointment?  Other than setting expectations very low?
I think that there is.  And we receive it from the pen of the wisest man whoever lived.
Solomon.
Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.” Proverbs 15:22
Yes, this does speak specifically about purposes… things that we set out to do… not people.  Unfortunately people can often disappoint, but I think that has more to do with what we expect from them than what they are capable of.
But for purposes… the answer to avoiding disappointment is humility.  And that humility demonstrates itself in honoring the thoughts, experiences, and opinions of other who have demonstrated a heart to counsel.
You don’t have to do everything they say, but you should listen to it.
Why?
Because thoughts are things we receive.  Thinking is when we devise (bring together in new combinations) the thoughts we have received.
Recognizing that the Lord works for His children through His children is one of the keys to humbly receiving counsel and having your purposes established.
Funny how humility exalts in the kingdom of Heaven.
But don’t just take my word for it… go ask a multitude.
