“There’s the man of the hour!” These are words you would expect to be said about someone who made the game winning shot, rescued the cat from the tree, landed the big business deal…
These are words of victory.
Funny… in the Kingdom of Heaven things really do happen in a sort of backward way.
Initially Jesus had said, “mine hour is not yet come.” John 2:4b And then He went about His three and a half year ministry of healing, power, miracles, and truth.
But what His most victorious moment? When was He “the Man of the hour?”
“Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take [your] rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.” Matt 26:45
Victory came by complete surrender. Complete surrender to the will of the Father. Complete humility, complete obedience.
It was the hour that Jesus said, “It is finished.” John 19:30
Jesus took the sting out of death… “O death, where [is] thy sting?” 1 Corithians 15:55 (“The sting of death [is] sin” v56)… by paying the price for our sin…
And then He stole the victory from the grave. “O grave, where [is] thy victory?” by conquering the grave… and in doing so making a way for us to share in that victory.
“But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Jesus is the Man of the Hour now… and forever… because He is alive and since He is alive, we can live!
Thank You Jesus for Your obedience. Thank You for Your Love. Thank You for Your humility.
And thank You that we can share in that victory.
