I used to think that when I died they would hold my funeral in a gymnasium so that they could have those mourning on one side and those cheering on the other.
That was before I knew Christ. Now I still think that they will have it in the gym… but the sides will be different…
“Cheerers” and “Jeerers”
The difference now is that there won’t really be mourners… because they will know the secret:
Death to those without hope is dreary. Death to the Christian is life. It means that we can finally take full participation in the promise. They figured it out pretty quick that Sunday morning when they went looking for Jesus and were met with the following words.
“Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen” Luke 24:5b-6a
We are alive… in Christ.
But so many come to churches and do not find Him there. So many seek the Living (Jesus) among the dead (religious).
While He can find them there… it is a low chance that they will find Him.
But how could a church, with that beautiful steeple go from being a wedding feast to a funeral? How can there be all the bells and whistles and no sound of music?...
“The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.” Proverbs 21:16
When men wander out of the way of understanding…
When we lean on our own understanding we wander out of the Way of understanding.
Jesus is the Way. He is God. God is Love.
When we stop loving… we stop living.
And we congregate among others who do the same.
Don’t let your congregation be that of the dead…
Ditch the funeral procession for a wedding reception!
Praise Jesus! Be alive! Go hard after a relationship… not after a religion.
