To prophesy is to speak on behalf of…
When someone reads from the Word of God they are prophesying… in that they are repeating what has been said by God and therefore speaking on behalf of Him to His people.
And everything within the Bible is God-breathed. Therefore, everything in the Bible is good for three things…
“But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men [to] edification, and exhortation, and comfort.” 1 Cor 14:3
So when you hear someone say that a certain verse means such-and-such and then you hear another person look at the same verse and say that it means something else… do not look for an opportunity to cause division and say that one is wrong…
Look to see if there is yet another way… a third way… to see it, but be thankful that God has revealed His word through more than one witness.
There have been times when the Lord has so impressed upon me a revelation of scripture with a certain perspective and it fires me up! Then I hear someone else share what the Lord so impressed upon them about that same scripture and I am even more fired up!
Unless there interpretation is directly against the Word of God I see it as an opportunity for unity rather than division.
We can’t try to see who is more right… just praise God that He reveals His word for all things.
One interpretation may exhort… one may edify… and one may comfort… and none would be wrong.
This is not a time to be so dogmatic about who is speaking as much as rejoicing in the One Who is speaking to us!
Look for three ways… the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father Who sent… the Son Who said… the Spirit Who comforts.
