The Singular First Person Plural “I”

When God revealed Himself to Moses He said, “I AM.”  The Father, the Son, the Spirit have always been.  Three Persons… One.
So when God says, “I” He is speaking in the singular-first person-plural.
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” Exodus 3:14
And in Christ, we should be doing the same.
We will always get accused of using the word “I” too much.  We will be accused of being too self-center, to focused on our selves, to prideful.  And there may be times when it is true.
But there will be times when, because of Christ in us, we can say, “I” and be speaking in the singular-first person-plural.
And it is a matter of the heart more than grammar.
“I reached out to the poor.”  Sound arrogant?  It is unless it is the voice of God speaking through the lips of one of His children.
Yes, we can say, “The Lord reached out to the poor through me” and be just as correct.  But we shouldn’t be afraid of holding on to the truth that Jesus said, “Greater works shall you do.”  And why?
Because the Holy Spirit was sent.
The Spirit of God, the Third Person of the Trinity, the promise that is given to those who come to Christ… works in us and through us.
And we get to experience it.
When we give credit… it should be to God.
When we tell of our experience… it can be of us because it is our testimony.
It is also easy to see when the “I” we use is the first person singular.  And it should serve as a reminder to us to allow Christ to be victorious in us.
“I have a hard time with…”
“I could never be able to…”
“I am not worth much…”
These are all false when Christ is in us.  These are the obvious “I’s” of defeat.
But the “I’s” of victory (and please note that there is an “I” in victory!” are just as easy to claim.
“I am more than a conqueror!”
“I am redeemed!”
“I am loved by God!”
“I am an heir of God and a joint-heir of Christ!”
This is not arrogance or pride… this is fact.
Live in it.
