So many times we hear stories of people getting all the world defines as success and still not knowing who they are.
It seems that to get to that point they all take the same general path.
It is three tiered… but the third is always elusive. And it is the opposite of the way it works in the kingdom of heaven.
First they seek power. It may be in the form of position, fame, influence, or money… but what it comes down to is they need to know that they are in total control. They need to know that they can dominate.
When they have power they begin to accumulate wealth and possessions; more cars, bigger houses, successful businesses. With more power comes more wealth and with more wealth more stuff and with more stuff… they think… more worth.
What they are trying to reach is that point of identity… of self. They are trying to prove who they are and are believing that it is something to achieve.
But they never get there. What they have doesn’t define them. What they do, the power they have exercised… that isn’t who they are…
Power... possessions... purpose... that's backwards… that’s the way of the world.
In Christ it comes the other way.
First we find out who we are and why we are here… we see our purpose. We are children of God, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. We are here for His glory.
Next we realize that as children of God we have everything that is His at our disposal. We possess the promises of Heaven. And that is quite a bit.
And then, through the Holy Spirit… we have power. And it is a power that can only come from God.
So all of man’s pursuit to find himself ends up empty… when all he had to do was empty himself and let Jesus in.
To find yourself… find Christ.
