The Great Invitation, as I like to refer to it, is found in Matthew 11:28-30. Over the next few days I want to break down this amazing invitation so that we look at exactly what it is.
But first let us look at the passage:
“Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.” Matt 11:28-30
“Come!”
The word used here in the Greek is deute. And it is an imperative immediate (if that is possible). This is a call of necessity. This is an invitation that has an “ASAP” after the “RSVP.” There is no time to wait. It is an “act now” call. But it carries much more weight than an infomercial… and comes with much more than a spare set of knives.
This is an ever-present, ever-open, always imminent invitation. Jesus wants you NOW, RIGHT NOW, to answer this invitation.
COME! NOW!
And as we will see as will look at each aspect of this passage…
It always applies. To each one of us.
Whether you don’t know Him, or have known Him all of your life.
Unsaved, or soaked in salvation…
This is an invitation for you.
And it is an invitation that you need to respond to.
…more tomorrow on the next eight words.
