“And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, [thou] Son of David. And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, [thou] Son of David. And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?” Matthew 20:30-32
How many times do we act as the multitude? How many times do we rebuke those earnestly crying out for God because we believe that “they should hold their peace?”
And how many times does He stop, stand still… regardless of where the multitudes had hoped He was going (I can almost see the faces of the ones who ran on ahead thinking they would get the best seat… only to find He was going where they though!) and ask, “What will ye that I shall do unto you?”
When there are those who can’t see… whether physically or spiritually… and who cry out to the only One Who can give them sight, we should be rejoicing not rebuking.
We should be excited because we know how our Lord responds to such honesty and sincerity.
He opens eyes.
“So Jesus had compassion [on them], and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.” V 34
Praise God that He still ignores our obsessive compulsive disorder when we try to push His sheep aside… when we try to control things… and goes and opens the eyes.
