We pick up where we left off yesterday. But first, let us look again at the passage that makes up the Great Invitation:
“Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.” Matt 11:28-30
Does this invitation apply to you? Let’s see. Perhaps you fit into one of the two categories mentioned…
“all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden”
If the all ye doesn’t convince you that you are included. Perhaps because you believe that you have already answered the call to salvation and accepted Jesus as your Savior. Then let us look at what follows and see that there are two sets of people mentioned here.
“that labour”
Do you get up every morning and, even when you don’t feel like it, get moving? Are you a worker? I don’t care in what… it can be a farm or a high-rise, it can be as a Doctor or in a laboratory; you can be a preacher or a painter… you are still a worker.
You labor. (KJV says labour, with a “u”. I think it is because the Word is trying to demonstrate that it applies to YOU!)
Did you ever wonder why you labor? Maybe it is because you are trying to know who you are and where you fit. Maybe it is because you want to know that you have a purpose, that you are worth something, that others see you. Maybe we labor because we were created to or maybe we labor because we want to. Either way, if you have ever found yourself becoming worn out with effort, whether to meet requirement, to prove yourself righteous, or just to pay the bills… you labor.
If you ever find yourself trying to attain something… a new house, a new job, a new car, a new spouse… God… heaven… happiness… then you labor.
“that labour” is talking about all that WE DO.
Maybe you fit there.
If you do, then this invitation is for you.
And I hope that you take it. But before we get to that invitation and what He is offering… we’ll talk about the next group of people… the heavy laden. We’ll do that tomorrow.
Until then, press on.
