Who’s the strongman?

Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.” Matthew 12:29
I have heard the enemy, the devil, referred to as the strongman.  But that isn’t biblical, and it definitely gives that snake too much credit.
Every father, every husband, every man of God needs to read this passage and realize…
You are the strongman. Not Satan.  You.  The enemy is a thief.  He wants to come into your house and take what is yours.  But in order to do so, he has to bind you.
This passage is an exhortation to men for them not to repeat the sin of Adam – letting the devil in.  We need to be on a constant vigil, a constant watch, fully armed, defending our family.
If you see any anti-God’s-kingdom activity going on in your house… check to see the ropes being tightened.  The devil had to have gotten you… distracted you… bound you in some way in order to go after what is yours.
I have had to confess this all too often.  The devil can only spoil what he can get close to.  Don’t let him close to your house… to your wife… to you children.
Interestingly, we learn that a thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But in this verse we see spoil.  Why is that?  Because he has no right to take it from you, and he knows you would never give it to him, so… he gets past you to spoil, as in expose to an environment that causes to rot.
Get it?
It doesn’t happen immediately.  It may take time.  But if the enemy has bound you… you will see things rotting.
That is why we need to always be confessing before God our incapability to be the protector He is, and ask for daily help.
Go… be the strong man that keeps his house.
