“for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” Matt 12:34
It is verses like this one that really convict me. When I say something stupid, or cruel, or out of line… this verse acts as a mirror.
What is in my heart? And why is it so abundant?...
Because I have failed to keep it.
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it [are] the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23
What we say reflects what we have let into our hearts. And what is in our hearts is what will drive who we are. The mind resides in the heart. For man thinketh in his heart.
How do we do this? The answer lies in the verses before 4:23.
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they [are] life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” v20-22
It is all about the Word of God.
